Inside The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island: A Luxury Wellness Escape on Florida's Coast

Less developed than many of Florida's beach destinations, Amelia Island is defined by protected natural landscapes, wide beaches, and easy access to the outdoors—an environment that makes wellness feel like a natural part of the experience.

On a recent stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island with my daughter, I was reminded that a wellness getaway doesn't have to revolve around a packed itinerary or a traditional retreat. Here, it can be as simple as walking the beach together, spending time outdoors, enjoying a great meal, or simply slowing down.

Wellness That Extends Beyond the Spa

While The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island has long been recognized for its award-winning spa, today's wellness experience reaches far beyond the treatment room.

Guests can begin the day with Yoga Nidra, an ancient guided meditation practice designed to quiet the mind and encourage deep relaxation, or join seasonal experiences like full moon yoga, beach walking meditations, and sand mandala rituals. Those seeking a more personalized stay can build customized wellness retreats combining yoga, meditation, spa therapies, and other experiences.

Throughout the stay, the Atlantic Ocean is never far away, whether you're walking the beach at sunrise, paddling offshore, or simply taking in the view.

One of Florida's Premier Destination Spas

The Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island is one of the largest and most celebrated spas in the Ritz-Carlton collection and has earned recognition from Condé Nast Traveler readers among the world's best.

Among its signature treatments is the Heaven in a Hammock Massage, while the resort recently introduced the Strength and Resilience Massage—the first treatment of its kind at any Ritz-Carlton spa. Blending mindful touch, aromatherapy, yogic stretching, and deep tissue techniques, the treatment is designed to support both physical recovery and emotional well-being. Additional offerings include CBD-focused therapies, salon services, and more.

Wellness Through Movement

For many travelers, wellness isn't found in the spa—it's found in movement. At The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, there are plenty of ways to stay active, from an impressive Wellness Center to experiences that take advantage of the resort's coastal setting. Guests can paddleboard, kayak, snorkel, or explore Amelia Island's protected coastal ecosystems during Ecology Field Trips led by the resort's on-property naturalist. Miles of beach invite long walks at sunrise, while cycling offers another peaceful way to experience the island's maritime forests and oceanfront scenery.

Inside the Wellness Center, Peloton bikes, Pilates reformers, strength equipment, daily fitness classes, and personal training sessions provide even more ways to move throughout the day.

A New Destination for Tennis Enthusiasts

The resort has also added a Mouratoglou Tennis Center.

Named for renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou—who has coached champions including Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff, and Stefanos Tsitsipas—the center brings his training philosophy to Florida's northeast coast.

With three tennis courts, four pickleball courts, private lessons, group clinics, and customized camps, the program is designed for recreational players as well as more experienced athletes.

Dining With an Ocean View

Dining has long been one of The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island's strengths, with Salt as its signature restaurant.

Featured in the Michelin Guide, the oceanfront restaurant showcases refined coastal cuisine under Chef de Cuisine Okan Kizilbayir and Executive Pastry Chef Verousce McKibbin. Seasonal seafood and an inventive dessert program are at the center of the experience.

Visitors planning an October getaway can also experience the fourth annual Amelia Island Cookout, a multi-day celebration bringing together acclaimed chefs and culinary talent from across the country.

Why We Love It

The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island doesn't require guests to make wellness the focus of their trip. It's simply built into the experience.

You can walk the beach at sunrise, kayak through the marshes, spend an hour on the tennis court, book a massage, or linger over dinner at Salt. None of it feels overly programmed.

That’s ultimately what makes the resort work so well as a wellness escape: the natural beauty of Amelia Island makes slowing down feel effortless.
